SJSU Android Application

On the first day of my Advance Networks and Data Communications class my teacher gave us students three options to choose for our final project; Write a research paper on a new technology, act as a consultant for a new network, or build a smartphone application. Fortunately I was able to find a couple of students that wanted to do something new, build an phone application from the ground up.

The most important decision when choosing this project is what kind of application it should be. It had to be something ambitious enough to be impressive, yet not something so challenging that we would not have the needed about of time. So we came up with an idea for a easier way for students to plan out their education. As the class scheduler is now, a student would have to go to an advisor plan and write out their classes needed to graduate. In our app you could select your major, select the classes have already been taken, and be given a choice of what classes are left. From there the user could see who’s teaching those classes and what days and times they take place. Each semester could be planned out with much more detail.

We hoped that this first version could be used by future classes to further enhance it functionality and maybe become a official SJSU application!

I’m very glad we choose to create a smartphone application as it was something that helped up widen our horizons. In school we are well accustomed to writing papers for our projects, so being given the chance to do something new and interesting was very refreshing!
